Project: Amtrak Station Renovations, City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania (updated as of January 11, 2010)
The Challenge:
County planners worked for more than five years to complete architectural plans to modernize Amtrak’s 22nd busiest station in the U.S. Insufficient funding and bureaucratic issues added years to the approval process without clear progress toward resolution. Many participants became pessimistic about the likelihood to resolve.

In less than three years, participants regained their optimistic attitude, the project met technical requirements, and a contract for the construction of the $12 million improvements was awarded in April 2009. Construction began in late 2009 and is expected to be completed in 2011.
